Advertising & AdTech

Advertisers (brands) and publishers today use sensitive first-party data that they have earned from their core businesses to optimize ad targeting and measurement. Today, they rely on a few trusted partners including DSPs, DMP’s and SSP’s to help them purchase, sell or measure the effectiveness of their campaigns. These relationships rely upon detailed, yet reactive, legal agreements to protect data from leakage, misuse, and reuse, with protection only from audits done months after the fact. Major data usage breaches like Facebook / Cambridge Analytica now drive enormous fines, existential damage to brand reputations and valuations: collectively, “Data Usage Risk”. Brand teams need proactive solutions to eliminate data usage risk, and even more so as the industry transition from 3rd party cookies and mobile identifiers to solutions that protects data controllers.

With the Secure Data Collaboration Platform from Helios Data:

  • Eliminate data sharing risk and protect all parties

  • Algorithm Process Governance enforces Digital Contracts, ensuring the exact terms of data-sharing agreements

  • Data are never moved, preserving control and compliance

  • Detailed metrics are shared with appropriate parties in a real-time audit trail, ensuring complete visibility and control

  • Eliminate the expense and opportunity costs data sharing contract compliance audits.

Digital Marketing

Marketing technology (Martech) solution providers play important roles in most enterprises. First, Customer Relationship Managers (CRM) or Customer Data Platform s(CDP) are home to first party data that are collected from many sources during the business workflow and used for everything from managing sales relationships, to planning and executing marketing campaigns to drive incremental business opportunities. Equally important these solutions also manage consent from customers and prospects for how their data may be used. In addition, they are often connected to third-party applications via APIs to derive insight through analytics and other applications.

Therefore, the data are essential in carrying out both the business of the company but are also a valuable asset that can be used to drive revenue growth via digital transformation. But the CDP or CRM operator, due to their role as the data controller, is responsible for ensuring that 1st party data is only used in accordance with the exact consent that has been approved by consumers. With the Secure Data Collaboration Platform from Helios Data, data controllers can confidently share and control personal data between their CDP or CRM and 3rd-party applications. Detailed consent rules are converted to digital contracts so that only applications that were approved by data sources are able to process the data. Both the data controller and algorithm provider retain detailed visibility through the process, enabling all parties to validate the data are only used as agreed to by each consumer. Insights and results are only delivered to authorized partners. And since no data or algorithm leaves the environment of its controller or provider, full compliance is assured for all IP from all parties.

Success Story: Telecommunications

Axiata Group, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the leading telecommunications provider in the region where it operates across eleven ASEAN and South Asian countries, with over 150M subscribers, and more than US$ 6 billion in revenues.  Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, XL Axiata is the largest operating unit of Axiata Group, with over 57M subscribers.

In the first half of 2020, impending changes to Indonesian Personal Privacy Rules presented a big issue for XL Axiata which had always taken a forward-looking approach to protecting the data privacy of its subscribers. The changes to Indonesian governance regulations are expected to strictly control how business entities disclosing subscriber data with new privacy precautions are being taken. XL Axiata’s objective was to continue to utilize the data in a secure fashion to drive data-centric digital transformation, while maintaining rigorous compliance to expected legal and regulatory data privacy requirements.

XL’s experience since the deployment of Helios Data’s Secure Data Insight Sharing platform has been excellent. With the lowest possible data sharing the cost, highest security, and greatest usability, the team has been able to expand the number of profitable data sharing projects since their previous legal contract-only approach. Earlier they processed less than 10 contracts per month and only a few GB of data per day. With the new approach, more than 200 contracts are processed monthly with an average of 70GB of data per day. Revenues attributed to data sharing projects have also grown at similar a similar rate over the same period.

XL Axiata sought a privacy solution that delivered total data security and met multiple requirements. Yessie Yosetya, Director & Chief Information – Digital Officer (CIDO) for XL Axiata, said, “We knew that the requirements we have for Helios Data are very challenging. Our customers have great trust in us to maintain their data privacy. We had evaluated other options but no one was able to provide us with the total privacy solution that we needed to also allow us to continue to share and process our subscriber data to help us add, enhance, and market new services for customer satisfaction and growth. Secure Data Sharing has been easy to deploy and operate, and Helios Data provides excellent services during the implementation. We have also recommended it within the larger set of Axiata Group operating companies.”

Enterprise Data Sharing

Data is the lifeblood of the enterprise and it must continue to flow to enable business operations and growth. With so much proprietary, personal and sensitive data to analyze and understand, enterprises need to share such critical safely and securely between business units, geographies, and supply chain partners. Corporate reputations, profits, and digital transformations depend on the ability to extract valuable data insight without sharing, corrupting,  or losing the underlying data.

The Helios Data Secure Data Sharing (SDS) platform is designed to eliminate the risks and associated costs of enterprise data sharing:

  • Whether among internal units or between external partners

  • Using a digital contract integrated with a secure enclave created by the Trusted Collaboration Container™, or TCC

  • Sensitive data may be processed by algorithms and reporting software and combined with 3rd party data without ceding its control

  • SDS provides a comprehensive audit trail of key metrics, appropriate for the most rigorous auditing and data governance team

For example, imagine a European industrial conglomerate with dozens of companies in hundreds of locations, serving thousands of customers, but unable to aggregate data from its global customers due to partner mistrust, privacy laws, or security concerns. With the Secure Data Sharing platform, the enterprise, leveraging asymmetric transparency and confidential computing of the TCC, ensures that it has zero visibility to any partner’s data…ever. Partners are comforted that data privacy is maintained while the enterprise strengthens its reporting, profitability, and compliance activities supporting improved business decisions.
